Gardening Indoors

Bridget M

Sometimes growing herbs can seem like a big task! Do I have the right space? Do I have the time? Do I get enough sunlight?

Creating a garden is easier than you think. Here are some tips to get you started!

Start Small (Grown what you eat)

I know what you're thinking, how do I choose what to grow? Think about what you will use more, what is that ONE herb you always seek out on the menu, that one herb you always sprinkle in your recipes? Rosemary is my go-to. Whether I see it listed as an appetizer or on the main course, Considered it ordered!

Sunlight

Find a spot in your home that gets the most sunlight (a windowsill is fine if that's all you have)

Pots and Containers

Gather containers, jars or pots to grow your herbs. Mixing herbs is possible only if they have the same growing requirements; otherwise, make sure you keep them separate.

Soil

Buy your soil or potting mix (Before purchasing, Make sure it's suitable for indoor plants) don’t use the dirt from outside. It's too dense and won't allow the roots to breathe.

Products

Buy seeds or purchase plants

Here is a list of herbs that grow well in small spaces

  • Basil
  • Chives
  • Mint
  • Oregano
  • Parsley
  • Rosemary
  • Sage
  • Thyme
